News News and more News!

Well since I wrote last a lot has happened. Our little princess turned 1! She's such a cute little thing and we love her to death. Love to watch her grow and learn new things. I made the birthday cake (my first cake that I've made since moving out of my parents house amazingly). I'm not a huge cake person usually, but my sister who makes AMAZING cakes was nice enough to share one of her recipes with me and the cake tasted awesome! I actually ate a good portion of it! And I think it turned out looking pretty good too :) and for some reason I can't post pictures right now..so the ones it will let me post I will post!
And for more news..wait for it...we're expecting #2! I'm 16 weeks along tomorrow and can't wait to find out if our princess will have a little brother or sister! :) I would post a picture or two of the ultrasounds we had done earlier, but it seems that I'm only allowed to post two pictures max right now. We're excited and I'll try to keep updates on here, but it's been a super busy time if you can imagine :)
I've gotten my herbs started now just need to transplant them into the pots that I want them in. Can't wait to be able to pick some fresh basil or parsley to enjoy! I have slacked on getting my other seeds started, but I think that's been scaled back to only planting some tomatoes and different lettuces for fresh salads. We'll be moving at the end of August (while yes..I'm 8 months pregnant!) and I just don't know about chasing a 17 month old around while very pregnant, trying to pack, and keep a garden all at the same time. So we'll stick to just a few basic plants.
Besides that..we all had our lovely share of sickness this past month and a half and are glad to welcome spring and the green that it brings with it.

Planning vs doing!

This coming month my baby will be 1 year old!!! One whole year!!! Time has flown, but that's really not the point of this post :) So with her upcoming birthday (that she will not remember, yes I do know this but there will be plenty of pictures!) I want to do a party for her. I mean really...this is her first birthday ever...gotta have a party, right? I've spent plenty of time stalking others blogs and asking for ideas to have a cute fun, but not over the top birthday party for her. So now that I've gotten all of my ideas now is the time for doing! Making things and making sure things happen :) Easier said than done when you have an 11 month old tearing your house apart and getting into EVERYTHING! Not to mention if I pull out any craft stuff she thinks she needs to get into all of it. And while I wouldn't mind her playing with some of the stuff...scissors, freshly inked stamps, and paper that is not slobber and mouth friendly really are things I'd rather her not play with (EAT)!
So making cards, cutting out patterns to make cute pendant banners, and all the other cute things that I'm so excited to make is proving more difficult than not. So....all you mothers of toddlers...how do you get crafts done and not have a screaming child wanting to play with all of the craft stuff, or have your house turned upside down in the 1/2 hour you spend on crafts? I just can't figure it out. Illyana and I played a game today...she pulled all the toys off of the bookshelf followed by all of the dvd's, movies, and games off the shelf above it, and I tried to put them back as fast as she pulled them off. Guess who won? :) Me..but only because I got tired of the game after the third time around and picked her up and moved her with one of the toys to a different part of the room. I think I wouldn't have won if we continued to play the game :)
So anyway..stay tuned for the birthday post. Yes it's not until the 20th of Feb, but hey...who's kidding who...I just changed the background from a Christmas theme. While I LOVE to read others' blogs, I'm just not that great at it..so be happy with the times that I do post ;)

Life As A Single Mom...

Well, not exactly single, but it feels like it at times. I'm talking about Joe's new job. He's 1 of 2 service techs at his job and so he has LONG LONG hours and is on call for the whole month every other month. Of course the money is wonderful, but I miss him sometimes and wish he was home more often.
He has a hard time coming home to something new that Illyana has learned and has been doing all day, so when he sees it he calls me in to watch and sometimes I don't have the most surprised reaction (cause I've seen it all day) :)
I love him so much for all the hard work and long hours he puts in for us.

Halloween Fun!

First off, Happy Halloween to everyone!

This year was our first Halloween with a baby :) Illyana's first Halloween. Sadly, I did not dress up, and we didn't go door to door trick-or-treating, and didn't get any trick-or-treaters at our house! But we did go on the "Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin Patch train ride". Illyana's first halloween and first train ride!
So first things first I had to come up with a costume for her. Joe's grandma calls Illyana "sweet pea", so when he saw a little pea pod costume he said..that's it! Well the only problem was those costumes were made for up to 6 months old, which she wouldn't fit into, so I was on a mission to make her a sweet pea!
So I pretended to know what I was doing and came up with this little outfit with no pattern :) (yes..I'm kinda proud of myself for making a baby costume with no pattern)
And of couse I had to make a cute little trick or treating bag for her...

So...she was a sweet pea!
On the train ride there she had a little nap (the train had a wonderful rocking motion to it)
When we got there we had our picture taken with Snoopy and her cousin Maddy (who was a mime)
We got to go pick out a pumpkin...
and have a group picture taken with Snoopy, Lucy, and Charlie Brown and her aunt and uncle and cousins.
It was an exhausting but fun day!
Then we got to go to the church's halloween party!
We went fishing for duckies (she picked it out all by herself)...
got our face painted (at first she was not too thrilled about this process)...
but it turned out cute and there were no tears.
Then we went fishing with mom, she held on to the pole until the "fish" started tugging (pretty strongly, might I add), then it was all mom...
...and we got to scratch the painting of the pumpkin (she liked the texture I guess).
All in all we had a pretty fun filled Halloween! Hope you all did too!

Change: Sleep and Sanity

It's time for a few changes around here...

First, how do you like the background? :) Couldn't pass up the chance to do anything with Halloween (since it's my favorite holiday and all)!

Second..my little girl has been having a rough time sleeping at night so we're having an intervention. See I have sat down with her and explained to her about day time and night time and how night time is the time to sleep. Well..that didn't get us very far so...I begged for tips on how to "sleep train" our little one from a cousin of mine who recently did the same with her little boy. Well...first night (last night) was a success!!! Oh sleep is a wonderful thing! I know its only the first night and we may have some rough nights ahead of us, but all I can think of is the final outcome and all that wonderful sleep we will be getting! She did wake up at midnight (normal like clockwork for her) but I snuck in and turned on her mobile...she only fussed for about 8 minutes than slept until...get this...9:20 am!!! Wow! That was nice. So we will continue to follow this routine and hope for the best and I will be thanking my cousin for the tips :) Another part of this routine is no more naps in her swing! She would sleep 2 sometimes even 3 hours in her swing during the day. The swinging motion would keep her asleep and I'm sure that she is becoming dependant on the swinging motion for her to stay asleep. So now she take naps in her crib. I'm hoping it will help her get used to going to sleep in her bed :)

This morning I picked out a little outfit for her to wear, and it kinda makes me a little sad. She's wearing a shirt and jeans...no onesie :( She's getting so big, but she's doing a cute job of it!

Another thing that is changing is our fence. Sounds strange, huh? Well see I have these two huge animals we call dogs (some would argue small horse) that have gotten into the lovely habit of barking at EVERYTHING! People walk down the street or ride their bikes or walk their dogs, or drive by....get the point. Well these two lovely dogs of mine bark and bark and they are far from quiet dogs so I ordered privacy slats for our chainlink fence. They will be quite upset that they don't get to see every little thing that goes on outside of their yard, but I'm hoping that it will cut back on some of the barking. It will definitely be a pain to put up, so here's hoping its worth it! Yup..that roll is it..I get to cut each one out individually...

I think most of the things that are changing around here are to help me keep my sanity, that is if it's still salvageable :)

I'm sure I'll keep you updated on our changes!

New Adventures in My Kitchen

Have you ever shelled (I guess thats the right word) cooked garbanzo beans? I hadn't until earlier today.

Since moving here I've been over to my sister in laws house quite often, and she is a fan of hummus. Well, I've not ever really been a fan of hummus, but she had a pine nut hummus that was so yummy! Well, of course that inspired me to make my own hummus :) See I have this problem...I just can't be happy and go out and buy things like hummus, I have to make it.

So I did some research and found a recipe that a lot of people had a lot of good things to say about. It was a basic base hummus recipe the said to use canned garbanzo beans and tahini. Well, I didn't have tahini, but I did have sesame seeds. And with the canned garbanzo beans, I read that if you take the shells/skins off of them it makes for a smoother hummus.

So began the process of my hummus.

First I roasted the sesame seeds and some garlic for later. Blended up the sesame seeds with oil to make tahini. Skinned/shelled the garbanzo beans then started adding all the ingredients into my food processor. And I think it turned out quite good actually :) My sister in law and a friend also tried it and said it was pretty good.

So...all in all..I had fun making it and it turned out pretty good!

It was a good day :)

Does She Crawl Yet?

Nope! She just doesn't seem to want to! Am I ok with that? Yup! :) Do I think she'll walk here soon? Yes! Am I ok with that? I don't know... :/

"The beebs" is getting so big! She comes up with cute new little things all the time! Food is interesting :) So far we do NOT like peas, carrots, or avacados. We like apples, think sweet potatoes are pretty ok, and can tolerate squash. Our next adventure is green beans! Sleep is up and down..One night she sleeps all night long. The next? Up every 3 hours! But all is well, I get enough sleep :) 7 months in 2 days! Crazy fast life!

Life in Colorado is treating us well, and I'm loving the scenery and weather! Can't beat having a river off your back yard and gorgoeus trees surrounding your house. The hubby's job has turned out to be an overabundance of work :) which is a great change from no work. We miss him during the hours while he's at work but love the time even more with him when he gets home! Dogs are LOVING this weather :) And I should be starting the nursing program this spring! (As long as all my classes transfer over) Without a stupid college algebra class! HAHA...take that stupid math! :) (As you can gather I don't care much for math)

Well..I'm sure there is more, but I think I'm done writing now :) So here are some pics...

AGAIN???

This is a two part "AGAIN???" post..first, kinda crazy, second...well I'll get to that.

So I have not written in a while...some of you may not be surprised, but honestly I have a really good reason. So you know how we moved to Utah? Well guess what? That only lasted a little over a month and then we decided to do something completely insane. Can you guess? Yup! We moved AGAIN!!! After I had spent the time and effort unpacking a whole house, I had to pack it all back up again! We are now in Colorado, and it's beautiful here. I couldn't be happier with the move, but I really didn't want to pack and unpack a whole flippin house AGAIN. So now that we're here, I'm still not fully unpacked, but hey..that's ok. :)

The second part of this blog post is a frustrated "AGAIN???" What is with my flippin background disappearing everytime I flippin log in? Seriously? Is there not a cute background that will just stay?!?

Grrr...off to find ANOTHER background...

Sunday Serenity

"Looks of Love"

~hectic~

So I thought while I have a minute before I have to get stuff ready for work tomorrow (and baby girl is sleeping) I'd write a quick update since I have been absent lately.

Joe took a good amount of stuff to Utah and dropped off our dogs and our chicken for Mom to watch until we get there. And what a long trip it was..flat tires, closed roads..and oh I could go on. Luckily he got home safe and got caught up on missed sleep. We miss our puppies! And of course our chicken too :)

So I'll post a picture of our first round of packed boxes.

And that's barely a dent in our stuff.

By this point, we've gotten most of the house stuff packed, we just have to haul all of the furniture, appliances, kitchen, pantry, laundry room and shop/garage stuff and we'll be done! And boy, that's a lot more than what it sounds like!

So all in all we're getting there..slowly, box by box, but we're getting there.

Sunday Serenity

"Sweet Laughter"

A New Adventure!

So these next few weeks I may be a bit more absent than I have been lately. Why? You ask. Well because we are moving! We have decided that life here is not for us. We've enjoyed being near family and love our home, but if we could just change the weather and the surroundings and a few other things we'd be fine :) But since we don't have control over any of that we've decided to pick up roots and transplant them elsewhere. We will be near family, just different family. The other thing I'm quite excited about is that we'll have grass and trees! Believe me, I'd have them now if it were possible. I'll have a nice big area to garden, and I'll be able to go outside without feeling like a frying egg! This is not our dream move, but it is putting us in a much better position to be able to get to our dream home and life!

So...I may see you, I may not over the next few weeks.

Wish us luck!

Wash Wednesday!

The hot summer sun shines on my newly lanolized wool. The wind brushes the sweet scent my way, as the water drips slowly to the dry thirsting ground.

To add such sweet colors to nature for a short time is refreshing.

Sunday Serenity - "Soulful Eyes"

"Soulful Eyes"
(A moment captured this week. Sweet, silent serenity)

Rant/Vent!

I'm feeling very lost right now. I'm questioning the career that I've thought (for over 10 years now) that I want to go into, I really dislike my living situation, and I'm tired of not knowing what to do. It's exhausting! If I had my way I would just stay home with my daughter, but we need the extra money and the benefits that I bring home. I ask myself why I keep putting off school if this is really my dream job. And if I really don't want to do it and that's why I've been putting it off, what is my dream job?
I just don't know... :(

Wash Wednesday!

As a child I had to hang out the laundry. I don't think we had a dryer. If we did, it didn't work or my mom hid it or something. Hanging the laundry was a terrible chore. It took so long to do!

So looking back on those memories I would be the last one to think I'd ever have a clothesline. I guess with growing older and wishing time would slow down a bit that the quiet time that it takes to hang clothes out to dry is now something I look forward to. There are others that enjoy the swaying of laundry on a line being touched by the sun and engulfed in the smells of the earth, and if you're one who enjoys this scene, go on over to GardenMama's Wash Wednesday page and see the beautiful pictures that others have shared!

Here is my contribution for today :) Enjoy!

Post ideas?

I've been really wanting to blog more lately (don't ask me why, I don't know) but the problem is what to blog about. I don't have ideas. I feel my life is pretty boring...well...consistent I guess is a better term. Not many new things happen, and if they do, they seem so minimal to me that I don't think that they are "blog worthy".
I have noticed on some blogs that people follow certain day posts. For example, Wordless Wednesday. They post a picture and just a picture. The picture itself tells the story. Ok....so question to all of you....any other "day post" ideas to fill the rest of the week? I'd love your input, really! The more input I get the better...this will benefit us both :) Give me ideas of things to post and in turn give you something to read that will entertain you! Eagerly awaiting suggestions....

Craving the softness of nature!

With spring rolling around and hearing everyone talking about how the snow has melted away and the spring showers are gracing their newly emerging plants, I weep inside. It's over 100 degree's daily here now, and will continue to be late into the year!

I picture the nice warm sun filling my window first thing in the morning, pouring life into a dark sleepy house, waking it gently. This peeks the urge to emerge out into the morning...outside there is a cool breeze, but a warm touch of morning sun on my skin takes the cold away. I look around and see the newly planted earth that will produce the fresh vegtables that will be weeded and worried over until they stock my now bare pantry shelves. The freshly blooming trees with their buds poking out looking forward to produce the sweet juices from the fruit they will grow. And the soft green grass...Oh how I long for that.

There is plenty of sun here true, but it char's and dries any chance of softness and sweetness that may emerge from the thirsting ground. There is no softness here. It is a dry and brittle land that is depressing. Someday I will enjoy that soft morning again.

Revamp...

So I think my blog needs a new look...
Any ideas?!?!
I'll have to look around today and see what I think...

Ahhh...Sunning!

No, not me! :) I'm talking about my diapers! I finally hung my clothesline and now I can sun my cloth diapers. Oh and I guess some other laundry as well :)

So I hung my first batch of diapers out to dry and sadly found out that my line is not long enough! So I was left with half a basketful of wet inserts and wipes. And that's not even all of my diapers!
Well my fix was..wait a half hour til the first half was dry, then hang the rest. Isn't that a lovely sight? :) But I don't want to do two shifts per load so I'm going to hang another line! :)
